Speaker 0 00:00:03 The
Speaker 1 00:00:22 Welcome to the frame center podcast, where we discuss all things, framing related and all things aren't related on the south shore. It's me, Dave. And you know, I got Scott with me and we're gonna be talking about free frame Friday

People are very excited about free frames. Um, I'm excited about free frames, eight of them going out today. Um, they're going all over the place to go Maine. They're going New Jersey. They're going to Chicago. Lot of hockey pictures in there this week. I'm excited about that. Ah, I'm excited about all sorts of stuff in way frame center, shooting area out back, still looking for punch to get by fire off some pucks, get the place broken in anyway, eight frames. If you have an idea, if somebody that deserves a free frame, reach out, let me know. Maybe we can make that happen. That's it free frame tomorrow. I'm excited. You should be excited if you not well, you know, whatever. See ya.
Speaker 2 00:02:07 This concludes our live broadcast of free frame Friday. You may now return to normal volume levels. Thank you.
Speaker 1 00:02:15 All right. Sorry. Little interruption there. We got, you know, a little, you know, Facebook live video kind of a, you know, slight tradition, um, with free frame Friday. Yeah. Uh,
Speaker 4 00:02:27 What is free frame Friday? What is, might not know what free frame Friday is?
Speaker 1 00:02:31 Uh, you know, so free frame Friday is, you know, it's kind of a, you know, a fun thing, good excuse to send people, uh, you know, a frame every once in a while. Um,
Speaker 4 00:02:40 You know, your brain child of the COVID situation, correct?
Speaker 1 00:02:44 Yeah, it is, uh, you know, I think it was, I mean, geez, it's, I think it's, it's over two years now. I think we're pushing three. When did COVID start
Speaker 4 00:02:53 The before times? I don't remember, uh, 2019,
Speaker 1 00:02:56 I think oddly enough, it was like in April that the first, I think it was April,
Speaker 4 00:02:59 April, 2020. Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:03:01 Yeah. It was like April, 2020. So that's pretty wild. I think it's on, you know, since we, since some of the stuff I started doing on Facebook, it's kind of almost doc, you know, it's kind of almost documented it for me, which is kind of, you know, it's kind of cool. You
Speaker 4 00:03:16 Get those reminders of two years ago. You posted this video.
Speaker 1 00:03:19 Yeah. Yeah. Some of 'em are tough to watch. Some of 'em are actually fun. Yeah. So, yeah, I felt like I was making progress, getting better on those live videos from, uh, you know, time to time, but, you know, then, you know, then all of a sudden you do one, like I did a couple minutes ago and it, you know, feel like I'm back to square
Speaker 4 00:03:36 One. Yeah. My kid knows when I'm watching one of your videos. Cause what's up, Facebook live comes from across the room and he knows exactly what I'm watching in the other room.
Speaker 1 00:03:43 So yeah. Yeah. It's kind of the tagline. Exactly. <laugh> um, but you know, I did, I think that, you know, we were kind of, we had a little extra, I had a little free time here when we were shut down mm-hmm <affirmative> um, we started, you know, we were, I had been working on some stuff and you know, I don't know. I think maybe I, maybe it was like a, a, uh, an addiction I needed to continue framing things.
Speaker 4 00:04:07 Some
Speaker 1 00:04:07 Strangers since like, you know, 20 plus years of like, you know, framing pictures every day, every day for your entire life with very few breaks, you know, I started just framing things and, you know, I think like a lot of other people, I was probably spending a little bit too much time staring at social media and, um, you know, which resulted in, you know, seeing pictures that people posted, which is kind of cool. Um, I remember the first one we sent out and when I sent it out, that was, um, I think it was to Kristen Manning and it was a picture of her husband, Brian playing goal. And, uh, one of his age teammates was shooting on him and it was just kind of a cool picture. And I wanted him to have it cuz I didn't know, he had come out of retirement for that said he COVID, you know, I think he said COVID was, you know, brought him outta retirement and his son was shooting pucks on him. And that was kind of fun. I thought it was like, you know, it was easy. I think we were, you know, ups was still delivering. Yeah. We were still like started sending packages out. Cause we were still framing. Like I was still doing all the maps online, cuz those were going all over the country. Yeah. And people were buying online. Yeah. So that was
Speaker 4 00:05:20 They up at that time too.
Speaker 1 00:05:21 <laugh> yeah. So that was, that was crazy. So it was like, it was just ended up framing a couple extra things and that was the first one I sent out. That was awesome. Um, and then it just, from there, I think I started doing some stuff with, uh, CA Lichfield and we were just doing her portraits cuz I had done, I kind of connected with her with that uh, front door step. What the hell is that called this like the, the front step project, the photographers would go into people's houses and shooting them in front of the uh, yeah, the stoops there. Yeah. They like in, on their, their front steps. Yeah. Um, like people were doing a lot of family portraits that way during that, you know, the COVID time. So we, we started, uh, we teamed up and we were sending, you know, she was actually delivering those ones. We were like to people that was awesome. Mm-hmm <affirmative> I think people really liked that. Um, we since have done a couple other things with her and you know, hopefully we'll continue to do some more. Maybe we'll get some more of her portraits out now that my, uh, you know, now that I'm thinking about it again.
Speaker 4 00:06:25 Yeah. And it's been a positive response on a lot of this things. It's, it's, it's funny the gift of giving someone a memory that they just keep on their phone or on their social feeds rather than displaying them in their house because it's become so much easier just to take pictures, but nobody's displaying them anymore. They're always, you know, stuck on a phone somewhere, stuck on a laptop and a computer somewhere in cyberspace, but not in the
Speaker 1 00:06:46 Home. Yeah. It gives me an excuse to like creep around on people's, uh, social media, like look through all their pictures and uh, you know, find ones that I like, you know, it's been a fun way to like, uh, so this week I sent out a couple too, a couple guys that were coaching's Z. Um, I've been able to send out things to a bunch of his coaches. It's kind of just a nice, you know. Yeah. Nice. Thank you. Um, for those type of things,
Speaker 4 00:07:07 We did the first responders though, when everything was first, uh, going on, I remember that we did a group.
Speaker 1 00:07:12 Yeah. We were doing
Speaker 4 00:07:12 Sending his firefighter. We sent stuff out for his family. Mm-hmm <affirmative> a few nurses and things like that. Um,
Speaker 1 00:07:18 Yeah. There's, I mean, there's, I mean, I don't think there's any, there's no shortage of people who deserve to get a, uh, free frame every once in a while. Mm-hmm <affirmative> and uh, you know, we've, I've had a lot of help from, you know, from other people. Uh, Jen's helped me, my friend Ross has helped me a ton. Um, every once in a while somebody will send, uh, you know, some unrelated, you know, person, which is, I, I kind of welcome, um, you know, because it, you know, it's, you know, it's nice. You, I dunno, it's kind of a fun thing. Um, you know, we started doing the stuff with press, um, where we're sending stuff to some of his customers and, you know, sending to some people, um, you know, like gift cards to get, uh, free juices. Oh yeah. Um, you know, check did a couple things with the farmer's market here in Hanover that we sponsor that was kind of fun. We pulled a couple of those things. Hopefully we'll do some more of those. Yeah. Who knows? And hopefully we'll come up with some other ideas too. Yeah.
Speaker 4 00:08:11 Well it used to be like you did three or four. How many we sent out today?
Speaker 1 00:08:14 I think today we sent out eight, eight. I think the, my goal in my head, like, I don't like to send out any less than like four. Right. But you know, four or five every week is the, you know, is what I shoot for. But some weeks I get carried away. Like <laugh>, you know, I think I still have like two upstairs that are, or actually three that I'm gonna send next week. There you go. Like a little bit ahead, but like, cuz one of 'em the people are on a trip and I don't think they'll be back till next week. So yeah. Having the other ones, I just couldn't like, I, yeah, I don't know. I trying to stay, I don't wanna send more than 10. I feel like that's like, yeah. Some other people get upset with, they say like almost too much, you know, but yeah. Four to five a week, but you know, AF since I was away last week
Speaker 4 00:08:55 Catching up.
Speaker 1 00:08:56 Yeah. I mean, I think we only sent out four last week cause I got them ready before I left mm-hmm <affirmative> um, but you know, then I have too much time on my hands and I wanna send more people frames. Yeah. I
Speaker 4 00:09:06 Don't know. Yeah. There's nothing wrong with that though. And I mean
Speaker 1 00:09:08 It's good
Speaker 4 00:09:08 Practice. It's not all local either too. Cuz you said a couple of them were heading out what was a
Speaker 1 00:09:12 Yeah. So when we went to said one to Chicago, we sent one to Maine this week and where else do we send? Oh, we sent one to New Jersey. Um, yeah. I mean, so yeah. I mean it doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with, um, you know, I mean, you know, hopefully people that get free frames, aren't going to other frame stores, but you know, I don't really care. That's not the point of it. Right. It's the point is just to be like, you know, making people's day, making people
Speaker 4 00:09:38 Happy it good deep and make somebody's day and it makes you, you know?
Speaker 1 00:09:40 Yeah. I mean I get like all sorts. I mean, honestly I think, I mean I've share with you guys all the time. I mean, people send me letters, people text me very ha you know, like thankful it's and it's just like, it's something
Speaker 4 00:09:52 That's not done anymore. And that's, what's really nice. It's, it's a,
Speaker 1 00:09:55 I mean, if you go to a frame store and they don't send you a free frame every once in a while, what you go to the freight frame place. I dunno. I mean, I don't, I mean, I, I really haven't like turned it into like a, as much of a frame center thing then it, that I probably should maybe we'll transition it at some point. I don't know. It's still like I do all, I post the videos on my, my Facebook. I do, you know, um, you know, I don't, I don't, I, I don't even know if I wanna make it all about frame center. Yeah. Yeah. Cuz it's really more of a, I dunno. I mean I get, but who knows? Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I am all I am, I guess the face of the frame center now than we have a podcast,
Speaker 4 00:10:36 We got the podcast going and maybe that's a good segment for this section right here. If anybody has somebody they would like to nominate yeah. For a free frame Friday, that's listening right now. If they want to contact us through staff frame center.com, send us a little blurb about why you wanna send it out to this person include the image you want to send so that maybe we don't have to go digging quite as far. I mean, Dave does like super slewing through social media <laugh> but you know, if we can save a little time, especially if this catches on. Yeah. It'd be nice to have maybe the reason behind that picture that you want to send to somebody. Yeah. The
Speaker 1 00:11:08 Reason behind it. I mean the reason could be as simple as it's an unbelievable picture of exactly these people and they probably, you know, I mean some of the pictures, I think people like, you know, they have in their mind that they want it frame, but sometimes there's like a couple extra steps to that. Mm-hmm <affirmative>, I mean, we are working on the website, we, you know, hopefully at some point the website or the apps that we're developing will be so simple that someone can kind of like just pop in, uh, their images and you know, we can just send it out like it, you know, almost the same, uh, way that free frame Friday happens, you know? Um,
Speaker 4 00:11:41 That's the
Speaker 1 00:11:42 Goal, that's the goal and you know, maybe free frame Friday is good. Is a good practice, uh, run or good.
Speaker 4 00:11:47 Yeah. So dry run for
Speaker 1 00:11:48 Yeah. Um, but you know, I mean, I think that a lot of times people just overlook or they just don't find the time to like, you know, have a something framed that is gonna, um, I don't know, is, is gonna either that's meaningful to themselves. Mm-hmm <affirmative>, you know, I don't know we were gonna have to,
Speaker 4 00:12:08 It's become so easy now with, you know, social media and like just quick sharing pictures and texting people's pictures and things, the yard of sitting around the couch, opening the scrapbook and showing off the family photos isn't there anymore. Yep. Same thing with putting pictures up on the wall, the mantle, any of that kinda stuff. And unfortunately it's, you know, you go into people's homes and you know, there's maybe some nice artwork up. Yep. But the, the, the family brought portraits and things like that, they tend to be more of a, you know, maybe a personal thing where they're in the bedroom, not uneasily displayed. So sending out these smaller ones that we do cuz yep. You know, we're not sending anybody like 16 by 20. Yeah. Sometimes, you know, pictures. Oh, do we? Oh, I haven't seen any of those. Depends.
Speaker 1 00:12:49 You know what kind? No, no. I mean, I think that the goal is generally their, the small type,
Speaker 4 00:12:55 A small keepsake type situation. And it, it's nice to be able to have those on, you know, you know, a table or things along those lines. You know, people just don't think about framing photos anymore. It's just become so easy just to display them in every other direction that,
Speaker 1 00:13:08 Well, sometimes I think people run into the problem where that, you know, what do you, how many photographs do you have on your phone? I mean like at thousands and when you take a picture, you know, you're out to dinner and you take a picture of like a group or something. I mean, how many times, you know, how many shots do they take? You know, like five and then you're like, scroll you looking them over and you decide which one you're gonna post on social media. Yeah. I mean, I don't know if maybe that's taking the place of, you know, I don't know it, I, I can't figure it out, but you know, people need more frames and more pictures of the, their kids, more pictures.
Speaker 4 00:13:41 It's nice to just walk down your hallway and all of a sudden catch a glimpse of that photo or somebody coming over to visit that you haven't seen for a while. And they go, oh my God. I remember that night from when we went out to this or you know, that vacation we took or along those lines. But if that picture wasn't there or you wouldn't have thought about it since that last post, that you don't get a reminder from until three years later. And remember this night, three years ago, and then again, maybe you share it again, but it's not something that's a constant reminder of that special person or a thing in your life. So that's, that's, I think what it's gone away from and hopefully free frame Friday will a little of that back. Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:14:17 You know, free frame Friday, we get shooting hockey P that's part of free frame Friday. That's still like a carryover from the, the pandemic mm-hmm <affirmative>. We have, uh, we have the, the Erin cutout. That's a big part of, uh, free frame Friday. She tries to show up in all the videos
Speaker 4 00:14:33 Still scares the crap out of me when you put it in random places throughout the store, and I'm not expecting it and walking into a
Speaker 1 00:14:38 Car, do people turn her around? I, you know, we have to start some rules about that. People can't be just messing around with the, the, the, the mascot of free frame Friday. Um, but yeah, I mean, I think that there's a, there's, there's something there and, you know, again, if nothing else, I mean, honestly sending people frames and like just getting a couple of the, um, the responses of people sending me text messages that I haven't heard from in a long time is just really cool. And you know, some of the letters sometimes, I mean, I don't necessarily even know a lot of these people. Sometimes it's like a, you know, it's a picture that I feel like is significant for somebody that somebody was tagged in or somebody posted. And it's just like, all right, this is something they should have framed. And I'm, you know, I frame things all the time, so why
Speaker 4 00:15:30 Not? Yeah. But the other thing is a lot of people don't even think about getting that kind of stuff done. They don't know, you know, they go into like the CVS kiosk yeah. And getting something printed out and throwing it in a little cheap plastic frame. They're thinking, find, they're not thinking that kind of way, this, this isn't as easily found anymore, the chain throws are kind of killed all that, you know, to the point where, unless you find it on the shelf somewhere as you're walking by, you're not necessarily gonna be grabbing that kind of thing. Yeah. So having that put in their mind when you give them that and they see that maybe they start to think about doing some more and redoing the home and re just kind of getting back into that thought process again, of something they haven't done for either ever or very long time. And, um, and I think it's a positive influence yeah. That you're putting out there so
Speaker 1 00:16:16 Well, we're trying to spread good Scott. Yes. That's what we're, that's what it's all about. You know, framing things is very, you know, I mean, if people bring things in that they are attached to and they, you know, you know, and they're having them, you know, you're, you care enough that you're going to, you know, take some time outta day to have it framed or have a, wanna preserve a memory. I mean, it's, you know, it's important. So yeah. I dunno
Speaker 4 00:16:38 If, if you care about it, you've come to us to get it done. There there's a reason behind it. We're gonna treat it. Right. Yeah. You know, and the same thing goes to anything. If you've found something that you think something is gonna, it's gonna matter to somebody, it should, they should have a, a constant reminder of it. Other than, like I said, a two year notification.
Speaker 1 00:16:53 Yeah. I mean, and ultimately with free frame Friday, if you hate the picture that's in it, or you don't like it a couple years from now, like you like the, you can change it. Yeah. You know, just open the frame up and put a different picture in there. You know, who knows? I'll never know, you know, <laugh>, but I, like I said, at the end of the day, uh, I've had enough, uh, positive responses. It makes me feel good. I get excited on Thursdays. I start to get stressed out sometimes <laugh>, um, and you know, I'm running around
Speaker 4 00:17:20 Only cuz he cares. If he didn't care, you wouldn't get stressed
Speaker 1 00:17:22 Out. I'm running around like a maniac getting nervous about recording a live video. But you know, at the end of the day, I, I take a lot of, there's a lot of good feelings that I get out of it. So selfishly, you know, I feel good about doing it. I feel good about sending people gifts. Yeah. Um, and it makes my day, so yeah. And then I get those, you know, like I said, a couple of these things are a couple of, thank you notes, a couple of, you know, uh, I thank you. Texts and our calls and you know, some, occasionally we get, I get a call, like where did you get this picture? Some older people,
Speaker 4 00:17:58 How did you find this? Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:18:00 Some older people that don't understand that social media, how social media
Speaker 4 00:18:03 Was, if it's on the internet, it's on the internet forever. Yeah. Um, but you know, there's nothing wrong with, you know, having getting good feelings from giving somebody else good feelings, you know, good vibes from good vibes is a good thing. There's nothing wrong with that whatsoever. So
Speaker 1 00:18:17 Yeah. Well, I'm happy about that. I think that, you know, hopefully free frame Friday is like a, you know, a cool tradition that we keep here for, you know, years to come. And I don't, you know, since I kind of have the power to give away as many frames as I want <laugh> yeah. I plan to continue to do it for as long as I can, as long as, you know, people, you know, until like I, you know, get some sort of order to stop. I think every week I will continue to send out
Speaker 4 00:18:44 Cease syn desist,
Speaker 1 00:18:47 And it's shock that it's already been over two years. Yeah. It's crazy. Um, you know, there'll be three years and it, I, I just look at those milestones and like in my head and I'm like, well, when we hit five years, it's gonna be awesome. It's gonna be even better when it's like 10 years. Um, you know, to keep doing something like that and like spreading good. And if it makes a difference, if it makes somebody somebody happy or like, um, you know, it makes somebody's day. Like, and every week for 10 years, I mean, that's a lot of people that be touched and, you know, hopefully that, like, it turns into them like being positive or them being nice or, you know, in some way to somebody else. And it just, uh, you know, kind of snowballs, you know, spreading good, uh, good vibes, putting good positive vibes out there. That's what the free frame Friday is all about. And, uh, you know, I'm excited that I came up with it. I don't know how, yeah. It <laugh>
Speaker 4 00:19:47 Sometimes things, the best things that happen are happy, little accidents. So, you know, it's,
Speaker 1 00:19:52 It's like, it's kind of, I kind of started as a goofy thing, but I think it's a very good thing. And you know, like I said, it can, there, there's no stopping, uh, of it. Uh there's no, there's no time where it's, uh, you know, coming to an end unless I run out of, uh, you know, unless everyone defriend me or starts hiding all of their personal pictures
Speaker 4 00:20:13 From me, everyone goes private
Speaker 1 00:20:14 On that. I'll come up with a couple ways, you know, I'll, you know, we'll start going through your social media or, you know, or somebody else's, they all find it
Speaker 4 00:20:21 <laugh>. Um,
Speaker 1 00:20:23 But I think it, we should, it should live forever. So hopefully it just continues to snowball and in a, you know, it becomes the norm and maybe some people will start ripping off the idea. Um, Hey, and you know, if that's all right with me too, like, uh, you know, that'll be even better, you know, like more, more, more good vibes going out into the world.
Speaker 4 00:20:44 Yep. Uh, well, if anybody would like to help with that. And, uh, like I said before, if you wanna send anything to
[email protected] a picture and why you'd like us to send something out for free frame Friday, we'd be happy to help you with that. Uh, yeah. You can also contact us on Facebook, Instagram, and, uh, perhaps if there's any comments section on these podcasts, when we get them up and planted, they can leave some suggestions there on how we can contact 'em on that, but we'd be, we'd be happy to help, uh, somebody make somebody else's day.
Speaker 1 00:21:13 Yeah. Uh, without a doubt, it's, you know, I mean, it would be the, you know, hopefully it gets to the point where it's like, there's a couple suggestions coming in every week where we, you know, where we send them out, it just make my life that much easier, less stress, you know? Um, you know, it'd be a good problem to have, to have more suggestions than, uh,
Speaker 4 00:21:31 Than, than you know what to do with. Yeah. So
Speaker 1 00:21:34 Anyway,
Speaker 4 00:21:35 Well, I wanna thank everybody for listening with us today. I think that's gonna wrap it up for that. Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:21:39 That's uh, the story of free frame Friday, you know? Perfect.
Speaker 4 00:21:42 All right. All right. Well, thanks again, everybody. And we'll talk to you next time.
Speaker 1 00:21:46 See ya.
Speaker 5 00:21:57 See ya. See ya. See ya. See ya.
